Prosperity

Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

(Mark 10:28-30)

In an ideal world, one does not stop ones personal development at the point of just being able to walk through the circumstances of life. In an ideal world, everyone would be able to sprint toward the goal of, fulfilled peace and happiness. However, we do not live in an ideal world--that is, to my way of thinking, a good thing. In an ideal world, a person tends to stagnate.

Even though we do not live in an ideal world now, we do have access to recorded images of an ideal world. Yes, there is a record of the behavior of the race of man in an ideal world (or as close to ideal as we can achieve on this earth). In fact, there are two records, but we will only explore one of them.

One of the ideal worlds was the one of Adam and Eve.

And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

(Genesis 2:8-14)

Initially, there were two very simple rules.

Rule One:

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

(Genesis 2:15)

Rule Two:

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

(Genesis 2:16-17)

In the case of Adam and Eve, it seems that the ideal world became a somewhat boring place. They yearned for something more.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

(Genesis 3:6)

The essence of this example is that when humans face a totally known situation, they initiate a quest for the unknown. Adam and Eve's action, of succumbing to the lure of the forbidden tree, is a scenario that others have repeated, countless times across history; and it is still very active today. Therefore, we too must come to grips with this part of our nature.

This part of our nature is not an evil part, even though its results might be expressions of evil. The evidence of the innocence of the quest for the unknown is the fact that this behavior is the same one that we see in the majority, if not all, of the little children of this earth, especially, the mammalian ones. As children, we need to explore. So we say that, in its purest form, this part of our nature could be idealized as being, the quest for prosperity.

There are two significant aspects to the quest for prosperity. Every conscientious parent must try to instill these aspects in their offspring. The first is, of course, the preparation for the acquisition of the means that the child needs, to attain prosperity. This stage of accumulation we wrote about in the page titled, Beyond the Basics. In this part of the quest for prosperity, hard work and struggle are the things that we must be willing to pay, as our dues.

Sometimes the dues that we pay are rather light. For instance, some people will experience an accidental leap to prosperity, such as, winning the lottery, or making a substantially lucrative discovery, as the early pioneers of personal computing did. Still, once one achieves prosperity, in order for it to thrive, generally speaking, one must be protect and nurture wealth and prosperity. We must never be avoided this next important stage, or set it in the far recesses of the mind--this is what we do, either carelessly, or unwittingly, when we place too much emphasis on the consumptive stage of wealth management: this is the lazy man’s way of managing property. We must not be lazy, in this matter. For, it may be easy to abide in the consumptive stage of wealth management, but this is a short-term exercise. Your child of prosperity will not grow without proper feeding.

Be sure to understand this, though; the world has a host of individuals who will try to both, sell you the formula for feeding your child of prosperity, and give you their proven procedure for how you must use their formula, alone, to insure its proper growth. In considering his or her ideas, remember this: prosperity is still your child; nobody will love your child as much as you do. Do not think that everyone who says they love you, or your prosperity, really means it?

To avoid the wasting away of prosperity, try to develop your own methods of care. Then, you will be able to look for those individuals, groups, and organizations that fit your needs; and not, the other way around. In the remainder of this message, are some sources that you might find useful in beginning this process.
